Team Jeni’s Final 2012 ‘Cross Race is Sunday Dec. 23

by Aaron Beck on December 21, 2012

It’s hard to believe, but the 2012 Cap City (Cyclo)’Cross series comes to a close Sunday.

What’s not hard to believe: Team Jeni’s, powered by ice cream and the goods produced by our sponsors (see the roll call below), is dominating.

We know everyone is busy this time of year, but if you’re looking for an entertaining diversion this weekend, check out the races beginning at noon Sunday at Smith Farms, near Three Creeks Metro Park. Given the recent rain and snow, the races no doubt will be a big, fun, and muddy battle for podium. But Team Jeni’s is ready for anything.

Here’s a a recent report from the front lines from Team Jeni’s racer and captain Daniel “Danimal” Newhart (pictured above):

Folks, it’s the final hour for ‘cross season. The last race is Sunday Dec. 23. It’s going to be cold and people will be traveling and such, but Team Jeni’s will be representing! Becaause that’s just what we do. It would be amazing to see some of you out there. As our year comes to an end, we just want to thank you all and all our sponsors for what you’ve done for us this year. The majority of us are planning on racing road this year, which means there will be plenty of opportunities to see us race in the future.

We currently lead in two divisions in the Cap City Cross Series. Jen Peters leads the women’s race division (Categories 1,2,3) with such a solid lead that no one can even catch up to her. Wow! Even if she doesn’t race the last race at Smith Farms (Sunday, Dec. 23), she’ll win the series for the women, in the highest division! Amazing. And Amy Kulesza is right behind her. It could be a Team Jeni’s women PODIUM SWEEP if Lauren Kraft plays her cards right. If there’s two things I know about Lauren Kraft, it’s that she’s a good card player, and has a heck of a poker face.

And then, in perhaps a shock even to myself, I’m winning in the Men’s Cat 3/4 division. What? I’m as shocked as you are. Apparently all that hard work, fueled by our sponsors, has paid off! In fact, I’m eating ice cream and drinking whiskey as I write this. I’m very excited. I don’t even need to race the last race, but folks, you guessed it, I’m going to. Because if we’re going to win as Team Jeni’s, we race all the races. It’s kind of cool to race in an event with no pressure, but my legs will be working. I want to finish strong.

Some other cool news: We’ve added another fellow to our team. Mr. Aidan Seufert has joined on and has started strongly by winning his first two races in the men’s 4/5 division! He’s a fast one, and with a bright future riding with us!

Thank you all for coming out to the races. Safe travels, happy holidays!

Team Jeni’s: fueled by ice creams, sorbets, and frozen yogurts and food and drink from the likes of many a Central Ohio sponsor.

Team Jeni’s up and over a bridge this fall during the Cap City Cross season. Indoor/Outdoor carpeting: timeless.

One of the great bits about cyclocross racing (for riders and fans alike): lots of crazy obstacles and barriers.

‘Cross requirements: strong legs and lungs, lots of agility.

Go get ‘em, tiger.

The best ‘cross is muddy ‘cross, and it’s going to be a mud fest Sunday at the 2012 Cap City Cross finale at Smith Farms.
